In today’s society, it is difficult to walk just about anywhere without seeing someone wearing a pair of Nike Air Jordans. With so many creative colors and designs it is no wonder that they have been taking the world by storm.
Micheal Jordan is arguably one of the greatest basketball players of all time. In 1984 Micheal Jordan signed a 5 year deal with Nike for 2.5 million dollars which at the time was triple any other deal in the NBA. The first Air Jordan shoe was released in spring of 1985 and the rest is history. For the past 40 years Nike Air Jordans have been a coveted item for sneaker lovers across the globe.
Air Jordans are a basketball shoe. Micheal Jordan wore his own shoes for the rest of his career after they were released. Despite being a basketball shoe, consumers wore the shoes on and off the court.
Samantha Grace, a senior at Washingtonville High School is a fan of the brand. “Since I was in elementary school I have always had a pair of Jordans, they’re shoes that will always be in my collection and honestly are my favorite shoes to wear,” she expressed excitedly.
Nowadays, Nike Air Jordans are seen less on the courts and more on the street. Jordans have become a staple shoe in street wear fashion which is trending right now. With over 35 different styles and countless colorways, Air Jordans can be matched with almost anything.
Even after 40 years, new Jordans are still coming out with different colors and designs. Jordan brand also re-releases original colorways to give people a chance to buy the shoes that were popular in past decades. Black Cement 3’s were first released in 1988 and were re-released six times after.
Junior Alyssa Andino informed, “Everyday when I go to school I see at least 30 people wearing Jordans. I honestly believe everyone has at least one pair with how common they are. I even have my own two pairs and they are my favorite shoes.”
Since 1985 when the first Nike Air Jordans released, that brand was a big success, and for the past 40 years business has stayed the same. Popularity for Jordans has only grown over time and it will still continue to do so in the future as new shoes get released and older versions are re-released.
