In recent years, there's been a noticeable trend of middle school girls becoming increasingly interested in skincare. While it's great to see young people taking an interest in their skin health, there's a growing concern that many are purchasing and using products that aren't suitable for their age group.

Middle school girls are at a stage where their skin is still developing and changing. Hormonal shifts can lead to issues like acne, and their skin is generally more sensitive than that of adults.

Ryleigh Doss a middle school girl explained, “ I would use whatever skincare products were trending at the time, I didn't look at ingredients or know what I was actually putting on my skin .”

Unfortunately, many skincare products marketed to adults contain potent ingredients like retinoids, strong acids, and high concentrations of active ingredients that can be too harsh for young, sensitive skin. Using these products can lead to irritation, redness, and even long-term damage.

Moreover, middle school girls are often influenced by social media and beauty trends, which can promote the use of these advanced skincare products without proper guidance.

Licensed Esthetician, and Washingtonville alumni Christina Chan exclaims, “ I cant believe that little girls arousing the same products that my clients that are 50 years old use, these kids need to be careful with what they're using and they need to make sure its okay for their skin at such a young age.”

It's important for parents and guardians to educate their children about the basics of skincare and to help them choose products that are gentle and appropriate for their skin type. Opting for mild cleansers, lightweight moisturizers, and products specifically formulated for young skin can help prevent potential skin issues and promote healthy skin habits.

While the interest in skincare among middle school girls is a positive development, it's crucial to ensure they are using products that are safe and suitable for their age. By fostering a better understanding of skincare and encouraging the use of age-appropriate products, we can help young girls maintain healthy skin now and in the future.
