Smiling faces of children with their families, stands of goods, and the smell of both fire and roasted marshmallows were all sensations in Washingtonville this past Saturday. The air was filled with talking and laughter as everyone enjoyed the festivities. Whoville was in full swing.
On December 7, 2024, the town of Washingtonville held its annual holiday event, Whoville. Each year, Washingtonville hosts an all-day festivity for the community. From hot cocoa to horse-drawn carriage rides to the market at Veterans Square, there was definitely something for everyone.
Starting at 9 a.m., local businesses set up their booths to share their products and creations. For many, it was their first time being involved in Whoville, and the market while others have been participating for years.
Being greeted by the warm faces of the people at the stands is truly an unforgettable experience. There were a variety of different items available, from Christmas decorations to foods and sweets that made perfect gifts.
The beauty of Whoville is the variety of activities to do with either your family, friends, or self. Some of these activities included listening to carolers, having cookies with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, spending time at the fire, warming up with some hot cocoa, buying your loved one gifts, or even enjoying a carriage ride throughout the merry and jubilant town.
Many local people came together and set up their stands at Veterans Square. Violet Vergilis is a student at Washingtonville who expressed, “We’ve been doing it for years. We just like seeing all the kids and them being able to give their letters to Santa.”
At each stand, people of all ages were helping to sell products. From Guilty Pleasures Cheesecakes, Alysha Huberty shared that, “[she's] been here for over a year now.” She then conveyed, “I enjoy the customers; I get enjoyment from how nice the customers are.”
Whoville is an event for people of all ages and families that provides all-day entertainment and an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the holiday season. There were no dull moments in Whoville, simply being the perfect place to get into the holiday spirit. This warm and serene event is definitely one to add to your traditions.
