On Oct. 25, the Moffat Library held a Halloween Carnival for families. The library was decorated with spider webs, painted pumpkins and caution tape. It consisted of many activities for the little kids. The activities included, bowling, ring toss, coloring and mini games for candy.
One of the highlights of the day were the creative games that were set up in stations. Two of the most popular mini games were “Pin the Head on the Horseman” and “Guess the amount of Candy.” In “Pin the Head on the Horseman,” the kids were blindfolded and had to try and pin the head. If they pinned the head in the correct spot, they would get candy. In “Guess the amount of Candy,” there was a big jar of Jolly ranchers of all flavors stacked to the top. If children guessed the correct amount, they would win the jar of candy.
The bowling game and ring toss were a big success. There was a line of kids waiting for their turn. The Community Service members, who volunteered their time to help out, would hand the ball or rings to each kid and cheer them on as they played.
The room was filled with people dressed in their halloween costumes and open bags overflowing with candy. There were all types of different costumes. From princesses to witches, everyone was having a good time. One room had tables packed with many different tasty snacks and drinks. The kids were laughing and bonding with their friends.
Members of the community service club attended with good attitudes and Halloween vibes. They were stationed at different activities and guided the kids throughout each game. George Ghabious, a high school senior, stated, “I heard that the library needed help and I just thought that I'd do my best to try and help out my community.”
Another member of the Community Service was Delainey Mann. Delainey Mann is also a high school senior. She disclosed, “The little kids need us and I am a hero to them.”
The Community Service Club began almost 25 years ago in Washingtonville High School. They volunteer and help people in need. It is a way of bringing people together and making Washingtonville a better place.
Alexander Simons, a new member of Washingtonville claimed, “So, the reason I am here tonight is to help out the community. I recently just moved here and I'd like to make a positive impact on my community. I am enjoying tonight. There has been a pretty good turnout and it’s pretty fun seeing all the little kids in the costumes.”
The Halloween Carnival brought the community together and allowed kids to express themselves with their different costumes. The library was loaded with laughter and positive energy. It was another successful event at the Moffat Library right here in Washingtonville.
