Girls Soccer Shows Pride, Passion, and Purpose

As the final whistle blows and the screams of passionate students vanish, the end of a successful soccer season has come. This fall, the air was filled with a mix of pride and the bittersweet feeling of the season coming to an end. This unforgettable season filled with victory, triumph and unforgettable memories will go down in history.

Not only did the Lady Wizards soccer team secure many impressive victories this year, but they also grew as a team. Their sense of friendship and playing for each other is what sets them apart from everyone else. “Being able to play with my best friends was the best part of the season,” exclaimed freshman Emily Outly. The importance of a strong team chemistry is something that most teams overlook, but the Wizards think differently.

Staying positive is something that the members of this elite team wholeheartedly believe in. “My biggest takeaway from the season is to always have a positive mindset no matter the outcome of a game or your performance,” explained senior captain, Gracie Drenth. Her commitment to staying positive and having fun, no matter the circumstances, is what sets her apart. Whether it's celebrating a victory or staying positive after a tough loss, Gracie’s attitude has been a source of strength and inspiration for her teammates. Creating an environment where everyone feels encouraged to do their best is something Gracie strives to achieve.

The team had a season to remember, with their record being 8-7 and outscoring their opponents 40-21. Their offense was unstoppable, as Emily Outly led the team with 14 goals, but their defense was what kept them in the running for the Section IX title causing them to concede only 21 goals.

With every season comes challenges including injuries, close games, and tough losses, but the Wizards never gave up. They dug deep, supported each other's moments of difficulty, and learned how to find motivation when things weren't going the way they wanted to. Their season ended with a tough loss in the Section IX quarterfinal game, where they fell short two goals despite their hard work and immense efforts.

While the team is losing five seniors this year, the girls are optimistic about the future. Future captains, Emily Outly and Camryn Ardovino, are looking forward to leading the team with a sense of pride, passion, and purpose just like they have always done.
