Scooping up Happiness

Walking up to the window, customers were greeted by a long, winding line and familiar faces eager to get their first taste of spring. Children with messy faces covered in chocolate syrup were smiling ear to ear. It was opening day at Weir’s Ice Cream shop and the people in nearby towns were ecstatic.

Weir’s Ice Cream is a well known, family friendly, beloved ice cream shop in Salisbury Mills, New York. Weirs is known for its delicious ice cream and good family vibe. Weir’s was founded in 1956 by Aurthur Weir and the ice cream shop has made incredible progress since then. Weir’s is still a family business, with Arthur’s daughter Liz Weir at the helm for the past 20 years.

Alyana Frias, a student at Washingtonville, who is also a lover of Weir’s, shared, “I love how Weir’s brings a sense of happiness to Washingtonville. After almost every win, my softball team would go to Weir’s and celebrate. If I got good grades, my family and I got Weir’s. I sometimes wish it was open all year long because of how good it is, but every time it closes down for the season I am always counting down the days it opens again and it gives me something to look forward to!”

The original menu started with just ice cream, sundaes, and shakes. Now,Weir’s serves hard and soft ice cream, shakes, floats, sherbert, Italian ice, slush drinks, cyclones, and ice cream cakes that will satisfy everyone’s sweet cravings. Over the summer they have over 30 homemade flavors. With their wide variety of flavors and combinations from blueberry crumble and brookie dough batter to kahlua brownie and Wizard tracks which is Weir’s spin off of moose tracks (Vanilla ice cream with a peanut butter swirl and mini PB cups), they have something for everyone.

If curious about the opinions of customers, ice cream lovers can check sites such as Yelp for reviews. The list goes on for positive reviews on the popular ice cream shop. Weir’s was even featured in the popular Netflix movie The Irishman. 101.5 WPDH stated, “One of the most popular ice cream stands in the Hudson Valley has announced that it will be completely shut down this week so a television show can take over for filming.”
