The Washingtonville High School class of 2025 hosted a talent show this last Tuesday and the acts were nothing short of amazing. The talent that comes out of Washingtonville has always astonished me. With impressive magic acts to outstanding Irish step dancers, it was truly a  spectacular show.

Talent shows have been around for a really long time, starting way back when people would perform in front of small crowds just for fun or to get noticed. Even before all that, school talent shows were a big deal because they gave kids a chance to perform in front of their classmates, whether it was singing, dancing, playing an instrument, or doing something totally random and fun. For a lot of people, a school talent show is the first time they ever get on a stage, and it can be a huge confidence booster.

I remember my first talent show in fourth grade. It was the first time I showed people my passion for singing and it was a great experience. I remember the mixed emotions of pride, happiness, anxiety, and excitement.

It's just fun to see what everyone can do. These school shows may not be on TV, but they’ve always been an important part of the whole talent show tradition, helping people find their voice and share what they love doing while raising money for the school's graduating class.

The acts that I saw were nothing short of awesome; I especially loved watching talent boom out of peers that I have never witnessed before. It's so inspiring watching young kids perform in such a way that brings so much pride. You can often hear people say that Washingtonville has such a big population of talented children, the acts at the talent show proved that to be correct.

Kayla Kemmelman, a member of the audience stated, “I would have to say the Irish step dancing was one of my favorites. It was very cool and interesting to see them dance. I thought it would be fun to watch and cheer on my peers while they perform their special talents.”

Wani Miguel, a singer who performed at the Talent Show exclaimed, “I perform at events like the talent show because singing is something that I love doing.” He goes on to mention that He likes that he gets to support his friends and that the emotion from the crowd motivates him.

It was very pleasant to see people coming out and supporting the talented performers and the class of  2025. My hope is that the annual talent show carries over into later years even after the class of 2025 has graduated. The talent show is really such a loved event and is such an amazing way to not only perform but to get to know your fellow classmates better by witnessing them show off their amazing skills.
